Did GMA Made The Right Call Putting Julie Anne In A Supporting Role?
It has been almost two years since Julie Anne San Jose was seen on a GMA drama. And fans' long wait is over as the Pop Sweetheart returns to acting via Buana Familia.
And honestly I was quite disappointed learning Julie is doing a supporting role to Kylie Padilla and Martin Del Rosario.
Lets face it, without the cheezy quotes to ponder, a supporting role is a huge step back for someone who is more achieved and relevant than the supposed lead stars.
A boxing PPV is billed with the main event and people will hardly ever care to undercard matches.
We're decades removed from an era when supporting characters are as strong as the lead and when soap opera subplots still matters.
If its still does, Sheena Halili would have been as big as Marian Rivera today.
Supporting roles hasn't taken Ryza Cenon anywhere and its not taking Yassi Pressman anywhere soon.
Julia Montes was a promising act but she fell from grace after she played support to Kim Chiu, and has not recovered since. Considering how good ABS is in building up talents.
Its almost a no gain situation for Julie. If the show hits, Kylie will be given most of the credit. If its a missed Julie will most likely be their scapegoat.
This also means Julie is out of any bigger projects for the rest of the year.
Kylie is good in her own ways but she herself is dead on the water as of late. She has spent the recent months guesting on several drama series nobody recalls. Playing back up to her is certainly not a very good career development for anyone right now.
Being away from the lead role does take the pressure off Julie. But it doesnt take the obvious fact that Julie has been demoted from leading lady status to a lower tier talent. That is equivalent to a Stephen Curry suddenly assigned as a 2nd unit bench.
Julie didn't came from any showbiz monarchy nor has the backing of impluential people in the industry. She doesn't even have her own manager.
And because of that, Julie found herself in an uphill battle for respect as well as for opportunity. While others around her were handed their shots, Julie was left with a weak role that is taking her nowhere.
Still, she did not let those disadvantages get in her way.
The Pop Sweetheart has worked her way up from the bottom of the roster to the top, growing as a person and as a performer along the way.
And for the people who have supported her from day one, there has been no better feel-good story. Julie Anne overcame the odds and exceeded expectations to climb the ladder, and she did it all by just being herself. And the fact is that fans will always want her to succeed on a high level.
Though, kontrabida, supporting role or not what sure is Julie will do her best to play her part and that she will garner support from her loving fans. She's everything the fans want. She's an asset to the network despite how low her billing is.
