Betong And AllStar Videoke Will Underwhelm
GMA continues its trend of reviving their old shows and reminisce its past glory days. This time with a AllStar Videoke Challenge, a rehash of K! The P1,000,000 Videoke Challenge that later changed to AllStar K.
While the original was at one point a homerun, its new version will have a hard time getting success of its own.
It will be built on the nostalgia of its past brief success but the bad news is AllStar K was in its dying state before GMA pulled the plug on it, a reminder that viewers were already uncompelled by its format before.
It will struggle to topple the reality show on the rival station that is reigning over its slot.
GMA's choice of hosts is not gonna help matters either. While ABS-CBN would prefer experienced emcees like Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano to host of their game shows. GMA is putting their faith on Solenn Heusaff and (of all talents they have) Betong Sumaya.
During the presscon of the show Betong have said that he didnt know why GMA is giving him the opportunities to host programs like such, and neither we
The task could've easily landed to Christian Bautista who is more fit as a host of a music-themed program. He is a top notch singer and an experienced tv host with a hillarious sharp wit, as Betong is a clod on screen.
Betong will rely on his cross-dressing and might even revive his Antonieta character to try to be entertaining but it wont make up for his sub-par hosting skills while his dreadful corny antics will only make the viewers not to take the show seriously.
Betong thrives in shows like in Bubble Gang where he's working with well crafted materials and opposite a veteran comedian like Michael V but at this point he's much better as a sidekick than the leadrole and more entertaining as the punchline rather than the one delivering it.
The first program he hosted Sabadabadoo was extremely forgettable and even GMA would be embarrassed that they gave such terrible show. Loyal viewers even pointed to him as the death nail to Sunday AllStars.
GMA reviving an old show and giving it a new twist looks to be good on paper but the way its been conceived seems like the powers that be is just doing their old habbit, throwing everything on the wall and hope something would stick.
You just have to wait after a season or less to see if AllStar Videoke will remain on air or more likely bids farewell, the second time around.
