The Track Record Of Starstruck Ultimate Survivors

Now that we all know StarStruck the Original Reality-Based Artista Search On Philippine TV will be back a few weeks from now, GMA faces the challenges of television ratings and raising the show from irrelevance. But what could be the biggest challenge is to make a star out of who ever wins this time .

"Sino Ang Susunod Na Sisikat?"

That's the question GMA is using as the marketing tagline of StarStruck's long delayed 6th season. But the most fitting question here should be Are you ready to follow the footsteps of the great Aljur Abrenica, the legendary Jewel Miche, or the Pambansang Guest Star Ryza Cenon?

While StarStruck was a ratings winner and once phenomenal, its track record of producing impactful GMA stars is quite terrible. To use an American Idol analogy, StarStruck produced alot of Lee Dewyzes and never came close to producing a Kelly Clarkson.

The list of StarStruck Ultimate Survivors are as follows: Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado (SS1), Mike Tan and Ryza Cenon (SS2), Marky Cielo and Jackie Rice (SS3), Aljur Abrenica, Jewel Miche, Mart Escudero and Kris Bernal (SS4), Steven Silva and Sarah Lahbati (SS5), (and Sam Bumatay and Kurt Perez to include the lone season of StarStruck Kids).

Of that group only Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado had significant careers in showbiz and Jennylyn is the only one who still remains relevant up to this days. While rest of the winners never came close in duplicating their success.

Marky Cielo seem destined for big things but his career was cut short by his early death. Aljur and Kris will forever be remembered for staring on too many soaps nobody recalls, while Ryza Cenon, Jackie Rice, and Mike Tan now settles as lower tier talents. And the rest are no longer with GMA including last season's winners Steven Silva and Sarah Lahbati who both lashed out against the network for career mismanagement.

Other StarStruck alumni that had any degree of success in the industry are actually those who fell short from the competition. That includes Yasmine Kurdi (former GMA drama princess and a platinum recording artist), Paulo Avelino (won several of Best Actor. awards), Cristine Reyes (lead several box-office movies), and Megan Young (a former Miss World).

In retrospect Paulo, Cristine and Megan only gained success after they left GMA and its management a clear proof that GMA is incompetent in managing and handling their talent's career.

Maging Sino Ka Man Failing In The Rating Race

GMA's new Primetime Teleserye Maging Sino Ka Man has not been so impressive in terms of ratings, it's just the third most-watched show on primetime in its debut week and not even the most-watched GMA primetime program, that honor goes to 24Oras while ABS-CBN's Batang Quiapo is now the undisputed number 1 weekday show after Voltes V legacy ended. What is even more alarming is that the ratings trend for MSKM is on a downward trajectory while Batang Quiapo is having a surge. I Was Right About Louise Delos Reyes

I have always been skeptical about the huge push GMA handed to Louise Delos Reyes. From the start I've been firm and very vocal in my opinion that she's a hardsell as a leading lady, much more as the Network's top star. After a not so successful youth oriented series on TV5, Louise returned to GMA as an impromptu onscreen partner to Elmo Magalona in Pilyang Kerubin, and later as one of the casts of Tween Hearts, but only for very short stint as she was immediately elevated to leadstar status to play the title role in Alakdana and since starred in several primetime dramas, including the drowned Kambal Sirena.
